There is a way to stop these E-mails, you can do it from Facebook, just look around, the most annoying thing is when you recieve friendship invitation from a person you don't know, I most of the time ask that person if he/she knows me.. The answer is always negative, once I had as an answer : "I don't know you, but we have something in common, we both have M in our names"..
