Hi everyone,
Just wondering, what is the verb "to be" in MSA? Would anyone mind also conjugating it in its present tense for me to make some comparisons? Is it used in such expressions like "how are you?" etc. Any input would be much appreciated. |

Hope this helps.
'is' is not used, as far as I am aware. I am taking this straight out of the book in front of me. Who (is) she? من هي؟ min hiya min= who hiya = she She is Maryam هي مريم hiya Maryam This (is) a horse هذا حصانٌ hatha hisanun hatha = this hisanun = horse (is) = not there (ommited) (implied) |

Matt is right.

To be is implied, and doesn't that make things much more easier? The English pronoun + to be + adjective, becomes in Arabic: pronoun + adjective. The only difference with English, is that you have to adapt the adjective to the personal pronoun. |
