I have two books, one says that the definite article is IL as in ILyoum (the day) the other says that it is al- (as in ALyoum). Which is it?

that the definite article is " AL " like : Al yawm the fousha pronounciation

Il youm : dialecte prounonciation

but we does not pronounce “Al” all the times, we say “achams” not “ Al chams” : the sun
