I know that ي is used for 'e', 'y' but as there is no sound 'I' in Arabic, how do we translate names, for example, that use the sound 'I', as found in the English word my, or the sound of the word eye, or fly...
Also, do native Arabic speakers have difficulty pronouncing this sound, similiar to my difficutly with ع (among other letters :P)? I heard that Arabic has no sound 'I', as in 'my', from my book, just let me know if I'm wrong. My guess would be use an ي anyway. |

Well even the english letter "I" is phonetically a composed sound, in latin you would write it as "ai", "ay" ... and you simply do the same thing with Arabic,
ai (or) ay = Alef + yaa' = أ + ي = اي
