I think most of the accents ignore the qaf or then change it to g. like in khaleeji, they say galb for qalb (an alb in egyptian).. some dialect(s) has it k too I think.. and it's still q in some, like in algerian i think.

In Standard Arabic, qaaf is qaaf
And as Jonne said, the way it's prunounced depends on dialects. In Morocco we say both qaaf and "g".And abu_dana? Where have you been? ![]() Last edited by Asminha; 04-02-2006 at 07:39 AM. |

Salam, shu ahbarik, Asminha
I visited Jonne in North Pole, close to Finland, and came back with new avatar, I now look like an Eskimo So, my other question is whether British stop is not correctly compared with Arabic hamza, in standard Arabic? Or in colloquial Arabic? Which one do you mean, Jonne? Or both? Thank you in advance, guys, for your help! P.S. Actually, I see that Jonne said only about standard Arabic. ![]() and the hamza is very much the same as british glottal stop. It's the same in colloquial and formal language.
