Are you sure it takes two t?
Other wise: kataba + hu kataba = he wrote hu = affixe pronoun 3rd person singular masculine. Thus, it means "he wrote it"

Yes, but I checked kattaba in my dicctionary, and it doesn't exist.
Usually, when the second consonant is dobble, it means "to make happen -the verb-". Ex.: darasa = to learn, to study. darrasa = to teach (to make learn).
