Default freedom of information

being a student in a university, I have the priviledge of being able to access a lot of information for my course. If I were not in university, I would not know most of the stuff I do because I would not have ACCESS to it.
I believe the most important right in our democracies is that of freedom of expression. However, I believe this right is jeopardised when citizens of a democratic society need certain priviledges (i.e: being a student) in order to access relevant information. shoudn't freedom of expression need to be combined with freedom to access any kind of information in order to be effective? otherwise, we would form opinions that are false because of ignorance.
that is why i believe all information, about anything ( except things like "how to torture someone", or "101 fun ways to build an atom bomb to kill your enemies or just people you dont really like" ) should be totally free and accessible to anyone in the world, via the internet.

do you guys agree? please tell me, especially if you think I am wrong.

thanks

Hello,

I can say that it is so important to have informations about something (I mean any kind of informations, not only those who sound nice for us), so that we can build not only opinions but more or less : "real" opinions.

But talking about sources of informations, they must be trustable..

I don't understand, how can't you have access to informations?

for example, being a student i have access to past magazines and journals in the university library, or online on special websites: before i could not access these.
also, my thread is about censorship: for example in China, Google is censored, so people are bound to form false opinions. (some will say: you were talking abt democracies, China isnt one...)

Yeah exactly, the knowledge i gained at university changed my view of the world for the better, i believe, and I believe academic knowledge and information is a human good, that everyone could access to better their lives.

to select which information people can access freely is the same as burning books : it is fascism. I think the internet is a wonderful tool to spread information, and we should try to make it more secure and more relevant.

Yes I agree, it's important that informations become free.
In your opinion why do they hide informations or limit the access ?

to be honest i'm not sure, i don't want to start thinking about conspiracies or anything far fetched...
It is probably, simply that professors, journalists and others who write the best articles that people study, live off of the money they get in return. I think that money devalues knowledge and information, however it is understandable, it is like the debate about free music off the internet.
the difference with knowledge and information is that people can change their lives for the better with it, whereas music is more for entertainment. in this sense, knowledge deserves to be freely accessible, well "freely", you still need a computer and the internet...

by the way i see you are Moroccan, si tu parles le français mieux que l'anglais, je peux répondre en français.
