Is capitalism the absolute winner?
Since the 90's, capitalism is seen as the only right way to conceive human exchanges - and finally, human relationships , or even conceptions of live and existence. But what capitalism are we talking of? Is a pure capitalistic economic system something that we can think of, wish to realize and hope for? Must State be totally erased? I don't know what's the equivalent in English for "je ne suis pas dans mon assiette" with this subject, but I hope to learn some more about it as it develops. I do apologize in advance for any silly questions that may pop out of my very thin theoretical knowledge on the matter.
For starters, what would be the definition of a "pure capitalistic economic system" and what would be the role of State in it, if any? |

I believe that in this kind of economic system, State must not interfere in the relationships between agents (individuals, but also firms, and so on), as the capitalistic fondamental law is that everything gets balanced by itself. The problem is each time there is something wrong, State has to do something (cf. those days the policy of Fed, in the States).

Another problem appears when you think of capitalisme. A wealthy economy is the one with a high growth rate. But this growth implies the developpment of the activities, as well in industry as in the other fields. But can this growth be considered as infinite? Must we admit that economical activities have no ends? Do they have an aim? If yes, which one?

Today, the French President asked, at the UNO in NY, for "an economical and ecological New Deal". This proves, at least, the link between both fields. Moreover, it sounds like the promise of a necessary reform of the economical system. Thus, we might conclude that capitalism in itself and "alone" (without limits) is not thye answer to our needs.

Funny. I would have expected a bigger appetite for this discussion about capitalism. I was eager to know what it meant for those who are living it for a longer time but, paraphrasing some lyrics of John Lennon, it seems that "capitalism is what happens while you are busy making other plans".
In my opinion capitalism, socialism are just labels. |
