Yes, I like Dostoievski, but he's not my favourite writer. I rather like Lev Shestov.

Never sure about aphorisms, he wrote that someone who wrote with aphorisms wants to be learnt by heart. So his aphorisms may be actually incitements for direct action, "primitive energy". They would be some sort of conditioning or catalyst. There's a "poetical" force into them I guess, some kind of lucid sophism...

This one is very interesting because it may be about the opposite intention : an interpretation could be that the abyss is ineffable, it is what people who search for the subconscious mind would call the Other, the point where abstract language lose itself... It would be beyond reason and theory.
