Religion in the West, and in other parts of the World that have expereinced Westernization, has slowly but surely faded. Most in the Western World are secular. That is that they do not attend a religious organization, church, mosque, or religious structure.
Most in the West say that they do believe in God, but they don't really practice a faith. This is due to the rise of science, the merging of cultures and globalization. The trend is surely to continue. God is Dead: Secularization in the West (Steve Bruce)

opium of the masses? I agree with you that in the west religion has really taken a dive but it's like Karl Marx reasoned, where there's suffering and a need for plebs seek help there will be some kind of religion; established or secular...
