What do you put your faith in? Creation says that god created adam first and out of adams rib he created the first female, eve.
Evolution leans more towards the above answer....
There are also other systems of belief which all vary along these themes. With some sort of creationism or evolution involved. (pagan, buddist, christian ect.)

If you want to be really gross about it,

micro organisms are asexual right? So the first developed creatures must have been asexual too until some (males probably) got bored and grew some new anatomy.

PS hey Framboise, when you say equality is just an illusion I guess you mean bewteen men and women right?
