I would like to get some intelligent responses to this question. Does God Exist? Why or why not?
I'll start off with a disproof. Can God make a rock so heavy he himself cannot lift it? Its a paradox. What do you think?

Omnipresent but not present,
Ominipotent but not potent, It's God, when we forgot him, he reminded us; when we seek him, he slides away. ![]() But I'm wondering, German, about your avatar, is it a pope or German emperor? Look at it, I think of pope. Last edited by pluiepoco; 01-19-2006 at 08:13 AM. |

I believe God exists. If you read through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, you'll find that it's a book about intelligent people and facts, not fiction like The Da Vinci Code full of wrong information posing as facts. The fulfilment of prophecies in the Bible are further proofs. |

To me "Does God exist?" is a question that should be formulated in another way since no one can prove whether He exists or not. I prefer the question "Do you believe in God and why?"
My answer to that question is clearly no. I guess people who use to read my posts around here did not doubt a single second about this . Though the argumentation is a bit hard to handle with... Let me tell you that I am studying sciences and about to make research my job. That does not make me a materialist but I just love to rationnalize things... and God is not rationnal!Though as soon as God deeply helps people (and societies or countries) who believe in Him, I consider He is essential and cannot be replaced by anyone or anything. He is also fundamental in human history and took (and still takes) a great place in humanity developpement and behaviors. So my conclusion would be that God exists for people who believe in Him and because He has been so important for humanity at all times. |

I am not sure either that the question "does God exist ?" is the one to ask, for it actually hides struggles for power. You have the ones who believe and the ones who don't and you won't change this with any argument. To ask this question implies that you already have an answer, because the ones who believe won't ask it ; so if you are among them, it's just a rhetorical question and if you aren't, it reveals that you don't believe. And if it isn't a real question, it means that the only thing you want is to persuade someone that your opinion is the right one, which is meaningless, since it won't change anything.
I think the question to ask is "what does the idea of God imply ?", because no one can say this idea doesn't exist. Maybe we should examine what it is useful for, without thinking about faith or that sort of things, to determine whether it makes sense or not. And here, I don't totally agree with The_FD : God has something to do with rationality. Many philosophers rationaly demonstrate that God exists ; it's almost an exercise in style...! And even if we don't consider this, how do you guarantee reason or conscience ? How do you stop causality ? It isn't a matter of faith. I just mean that the idea of God is useful and can't be totally dismissed. |

Hmm. This is always a tough one. I do believe in God, so automatically I would say he does exist. There is really no proof he does exist (or no solid proof?) but then again...there is no proof he doesn't. I think you really need to search what you believe. God and religions is probably one of the most old and complex discussions. Both sides have valid points. No one really tell you if God exists or not, you have to come to him and discover him yourself. Faith is your own thing, not anyone else's.
*ugh* sorry is I didn't mke sence. I am not thinking my best today, somehow. |

I don't know whether or not God exists, because there is too much evidence that He doesn't, but not enough to say so for sure. Although I am relatively sure of Jesus' non-existence. If you have questions about such, write me an email or something, and I'll be happy to talk to you.
