The text must be read completely, but what is interesting is that here, the Reason is used by the faith.

I think the problems that you have just exposed are subjacent to the major theme of the (in)existence of God and even if the latter cannot be reduced to them nor completely explained by them, the clash between beliefs/religions and the question of the aim/meaning of being are definetly worth debating.

Well, I can't help wondering what his bet would have looked like if he were inclining on the other side...

Pascal admits that reason cannot determine anything, so he's inventing this funny little demonstration: let's suppose that God exists, let's toss a coin and then have a look at it: head or tale - you win if He exists and you believe that He exists, you "loose" if He doesn't exist but you believe that He exists. Did I get it right?
Quite a commercial way of seeing things, isn't it ?
