To eat nothing will lead to death, and death means nothing more, nothing and nobody can ever care freedom or not?

Freedom in Enlish if the dom of free, dom means realm or place or being.
Freedom in Chinese is 自由(自在), which means "as it be".
And Freedom in most latin is Liberty, since it's liber (free) + -ty (the certainty or what we have argued "the definite or absolute"), so it's definite in its source of words. It's definite as precise as science.

Watch out, you are mixing two opposit notions.

the first notion is the concept of Liberty as you can think it.
the second is the word you choose to name the idea you are thinking of. As you said most latin languages chose Liberty. Then you can define the word from its roots.

But to define the word from its roots does not define the idea that goes with the word!!

Talking words and conceptions

We make languages and words to facilitate mutual understanding, but we can not avoid misunderstandings at any time, even though, we have gain alot from our civilisation of culture.

If we did not form our systems of languages and cultures, we could not even talk to our own families, friends, and the communities, not speaking people from alien world, so we should be happy in considering this.

Whether in the same or different language, we cannot help misunderstanding the same words in the same or different conditions, like freedom, the freeman will consider certainly differently from a deprived, as if an army will take its mission to be killing but not forgiving, but a buddist will enclose himself to the "merciful" world.

Arguments need to be argued and not put down, we should promote equality but not authority, yes, it's diversity of opinions, but we should not force religion over science, or put science over religion; think this, we dispute in order for a consensus, that most of us would agree upon, that's enough.

Think that "What's Freedom" has been considered by more than one century, and beyond you and me far too early than our beings, Here is a worlds or poverity and richness, weakness and strongness, warlikeness and peace, ambition and tolerance, killing, death and birth, it's a world of mess, in an order decided by God or by the Nature, since time is running even if we don't realize what's TIME on earth! That's what we must face, always we insist on our own opinion and think others to be wrong, that's our concerted presumption. To think adversely, each and every of us human beings is material but we have concepts and senses, animals do have too, and time is material, but we bestow our sense onto it, and it accordingly become sensual, and human-like, in fact, what is material actually is still a pending question.

Wanting your disclosure of opinions, let's share.

Hi to both of you!
Sadly your discussion was a bit eralier but I like to step in here. Of course you can take all these intelligent definitions of for example Confucius. But the problem about it is that today it´s hard to bring them to reality. At first I have to mention that I like the way pluiepoco tried to define “FREEDOM”.

TODAY IT´S REALLY, REALLY HARD TO FIND FREEDOM!!!!

For me just living in a city is robbing of freedom. Real freedom means for me to live in harmony with the nature.
This sounds really hard but there is another way of freedom! You can live in your own world of freedmom. You can ignore all these rules in your own personality and your own home.

I found a very short and exact explanation for freedom in a dictionary. You can just think about it! : "the right to do or say what you want without anyone stopping you"

That's a definition I would modify at least a bit
I would replace "do" or "say" in this definition by "think".
Whatever someone wants without anyone stopping him would include the right to kill for example. Which is pretty much incompatible with freedom to me. Still he might think so

Hi FD,

freedom is the right to do or say what you want without anyone stopping you

I still believe in this statement! Of course you must see this under social and human aspects that were and are also given in times when people live and lived in freedom…
Right!!! You said that I have to replace do and say with think. That is our todays opinion because we cannot imagine a world living in freedom and also doing what each one of us wants to do. And also your first idea about this statement was “killing”. It´s really sad to hear that there are so many people who think that doing and saying what you want goes along with killing or something like that.
Maybe I´m wrong in some aspects so let´s talk about it…

Well actually if the definition was the one you keep writing. That would mean everyone has exactly the same rules of things to do and to avoid in mind... just like that.
Of course it is impossible (that would be a perfect but unbearable word )... that's why society, governements and justice organizations give rules.
Then those rules seem restraining freedom to every single people... which prooves that they are good rules and they don't belong to a single person's conception of society.

Social and human aspects give rules too, you are right there, moreover they give very important ones... but they are not sufficient. Those rules are often social codes (for dressing for example...) but are not acting anymore in extreme cases or when personnal interests are becoming of importance.
