Jonne...I was talking to Asminha yesterday about my difficulty in knowing when it is ALEF or EIN as in ARABIA,ALI etc..
Problem is, lately I am not listening to people talking, and second ..I should memorize such sounds equivalent to certain words. As you are also a latin aphabet speaker, maybe you can give me a hint how you learned it.
The fact is...I was reading yesterday, EIN sound has no equivalent in latin alphabet but is something which comes out of the arabs throat. I wonder when this sounds comes out...is so so similiar to which vowel. Notice...I KNOW THERE IS NO SOUND TO DESCRIBE IT but it must have a similarity even it is far to compare.

uh huh I afraid im not a big help lol...

well, I learnt it by practising.. in a book I have, it is transliterated as a tiny c right before the vowel.. like

el cAin, cArabia, cOmry etc.

my arabic teacher likes to translate it as äain. and you say ä and a as a one sound. (understand? )
ä is like the english a in cat, bag, rat, sat, dad.

I also saw that somewhere it was described as "...just like if you're throwing up an A"

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh FINALLY AN IDEA !!! I GOT IT SO BESIDES THIS CLOSED A SOUND U ADD "C " BEFORE IT . THEN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ALIF AND EIN IS = ALIF IS A PURE A WHEN WE PRONOUNCE IT WHILE EIN IS CLOSED..AND A BIT MORE "DIFFICULT AND LATE "TO COME OUT OF OUT MOUTH. IS THAT?

Hmm I guess. you "close your throat" and then say AIN with full force!

hmm I'm such a good explainer, aren't I ?
