Colonial discourse is regarded as a monotholic system of writing. Colonial discourse has many aspects that depicted it. Orinetalism is considered as one of these aspects that of colonial discourse. Orientalism is a book of Edward Said that explores the beginning of post colonial theory. In his book, Said suggests that all discourse, particularly discourse about other cultures, is inherently ideological. Therefore even regardless of the subject any historical discourse must be situated within a particular framework whose overall structure is necessarily ideological. What Said attempts to show is that this discourse divided East and West. That is to say, it is a divide which situates the West as a superior culture to the East. This becomes politically useful, Said suggests, when countries such as France or England attempt to colonize and conquer Eastern countries whether they be Egypt, India, Algeria or wherever. Discourse surrounding these countries is coded by a superiority that is not necessarily reflected in the realities of the countries the discourse is talking about.
