I need the word "maktub" translated into arabic characters.

I think "maktoub" means "letter" written message on paper, not "letter" symbol...
Correct me if I am wrong...

both of you are right .. the word * maktoob* mean a letter ( a message to someone ... as abu- dana mentioned ) and it also means what is written as when we say : elle maktoob ala eljebben .. lazem tshofo el3een = what is written in the forehead , would someday be seen * as in destiny ...
but usually we use the word to indicate for a letter ( also means ressalah )
