Default The different meanings of "sylvester"

Hej alla!

I am translating a short story for my thesis from Swedish into German, hopefully someone can help me and explain to me what a "sylvester" is in Swedish.

Here's part of the sentence to give you context:
"... han stod och byggde nåt och hamrade och inte vet jag mager och skevbent stod han där och regnet rann över honom. Han hade väl hittat nån gammal sylvester nånstans och satt på sig och hade det funnits nån köksingång..."

My guess would be that either, it's some wooden-thingy, like a rootstock or stuff, or maybe an old kitchen appliance, like a stove and sylvester would be the fabricant's name?!

Can anybody help, I'd be very grateful! Tacka!!

The correct Swedish word is not "sylvester" but sydväst, a hat to protect him from the rain and the wind. Auf Deutsch sagt man ein Südwester. Look here:
