Can anybody tell me about converting to Judaism from no set religion (e.g catholic would be a set religion), would I have to speak to a rabbi? I don't know how to go about it and wondered if anybody knew.

Yes ,you have to speak to a rabbi,learn and practice judaism a period and than convert. Shalom!
