Don't be happy, FD, if the person says : I am making my decisions on my relationship based on your translations. I saw the same post by the same person in another forum and he's saying this, putting the responsiblity of his decision on translators. I'll refrain from translating such messages.

The translated message can be used in filing for a divorce. In developed countries, a divorce is often in favour of the wife who will get benefits and care, but still many husbands do not fulfil their duties, such as providing monthly expenses to their ex-wives and children. In many non-western countries, where women do not have rights at all, a divorce can mean no compensation to the wife, and if it's an adultery, it can sometimes mean putting a woman to death. So, think about the women. I would suggest putting a disclaim of responsibility if you decide to do such a translation.

Justice needs certified translation, we are not providing such things. So don't worry your translation cannot be used for divorce. It may break confidence or bring suspicion though.

And as I said before, when someone comes to the point that he feels he has to trust a translation rather than listen to his/her wife/husband to make it clear, it already reached a point far more important than just a translation. A translator cannot bring in or out confidence between two people, it only assesses an evidence one cannot figure out (or does not want to believe)
