Bad words mean not polite ones, right? But that is important to know them if we want to be bilingual and communicate well... isn't it?

It is about the language used everywhere but in translations.

I see it's an old post, but you mean that we can translate bad language, I mean vulgar words? Because sometimes people want rap songs to be translated and some people make a lot of fuss that they post it here or that someone actually translates that, but as Jolly said even bad words are part of the language so if they want a translation we should provide it. We just translate it we don't use those words to offend anyone.
I was curious about this so if you can answer it would be great.

None of the few active translators here is forced to translate anything he or she doesn't want to. The rule is as simple as that.

This issue was discussed already in 2007 in the Romanian forum. Framboise says clearly that words urging to violence, depravation and the like will not be translated in the Romanian forum. http://help.berberber.com/forum7/722...e-chanson.html Even if you don't understand French you can see what kind of words she means by looking at the Romanian lyrics.

This has also been discussed in other forums for example the Russian one. We have translated slang words there without any problems. However I have refused to teach dirty Russian words because I don't think foreigners should use them. On the other hand I have translated dirty phrases from a Swedish book in the Swedish forum. There have also been translations of bad words in the English forum.

There is, however, a difference between French and English. F-words can be common in English and the dirty things I have translated were mostly into English. Bad words like that are not so common in French. I think French rappers have a more developed language than their American counterparts. At least that is my impression from the rap lyrics I have seen.

So if anyone wants you to translate Gigolo or a similar song into English you can do that if you want to. The choice is always the translator's. If the other Romanians of the forum don't like this they will tell you and then you can make the translation in a PM instead. But since you just turned into a moderator I guess you will have more freedom to make your own choices.

I know the translators aren't forced to translate, I was talking about me.

I guess if I want to translate bad words I will have to do it in a PM, because I will have to take into account what other users say, so to be sure I'll do it directly in a PM.
