You actually want to visit this little city. Wow. I wouldn't say "no, don't visit it, it's a horrible city", but there really isn't that much to do for a tourist. Not only in Alkmaar, anyway. Of course, we have Amsterdam quite near, as wel as beaches and dunes... But Alkmaar itself isn't that interesting. Maybe for the shopping (#1 in the best-cities-for-shopping-list!), the history and then the cheesemarket, but oh well.
