The original issue is self-censorship of Google. Instead of criticizing Google, the focus is shifted to censorship in China. It's those people who want to please the Chinese govt by placing self-censorship for the sake of business, like some news media, that should be criticized.

I agree with you chinoise that companies willing to go through self censorship for business should be critized as well. But censorship in China remains closely linked to the Governement and thus it is logically criticized.

Actually, I wonder who is the worst : the censoring Chinese government or Google, who, for "business's sake", has absolutely no scruples about supporting that, in order to make a lot of money ? Or the occidental government and media who don't say anything, as if it were worthless ?

We have a freer atmosphere in HK. This news was covered a few weeks ago on TV and in newspapers, and there're commentaries on it.

The thing is, Google made that, because it is better than nothing, and there is a message displayed when results are censored. Gmail is not avaible in china, because Google wouldnt want to give confidential infos to the government. (Like did Yahoo for political contradictors of the regime who are now prisoners)
