You are right Jean Fred. The problem with translation software is semantics and syntax of a language. To develope such software a kind of grammar is used. But it has to be quite big if all the idomatic frases have to be put. Right now the most generic cases are covered by most translation software. Make a computer understand any human language (spoken or not) is a hard problem.

Native speakers of a language, not necessarily translators, can recognise automatic translations at first glance, unless they haven't heard of it. Why do some people think they can fool native speakers with automatic translations as their own?

The whole method of translation(automatic or not) is still under experimentation, so what you get right now is to "fool" the machines not humans even if they are not native speakers. The goal IS to fool humans for secure communication mostly,where it is needed.
