Default What about a rationalistic point of view ?

I think the best suited international language would be the easiest to learn and the most functional one. Consequently, constructed language would be the best option, as they are built in this very idea (at least those which have an international ambition). It's easy to show that the use of, let's say, Esperanto, would spare billions of euros and ease international communication.

However, does such a rationalistic approach have any chance to be heard ? It may seem strange (or not), but no government does care about improving the global situation of the world. Their role is simply to keep or gain some advantages on other countries, so as to dominate and not be dominated. A solution which is equally good for everybody doesn't serve their aim.

There is also the huge power of inertness. It is very hard to change habits : as a comparison, I can't imagine that people in America will ever stop counting in feet and inches, although it's a very inefficient system from a scientific point of view.

I think it's important just to realise the hug gap between an ideal system and a dominant one, especially while talking about languages.

There won't be any "globe language". Imagine one language, one government, one religion etc. How boring!
The multitude of languages as the multitude and diversity of cultures are the greatest things on earth.
We should all preserve our mother tongues and keep learning other languages.

I think in the future, english still a major language.

I really expect chinese language will be the major language in the future, then i will no need to study english so hard, but seems it is not reasonable and realistic.
First, english is spoken widely,of course chinese is the first top language spoken by people, but it just because China has large population. In many countries 'official language are english,If account by nation, english is convenience for people.
Second, compare with studying chinese and english, english is more easily.China has long history and fantastic story,it is not easy for foreigners to master it,they just can learn at a basic level. As we all know, for some areas, such as business, medicine, and technology, etc, they need use language exactitudely,i do not think foreigners are able to master chinese so speciality.

Framboise, there can be an international language that does respect national languages. I like the idea of a universal and simple communication language. But every culture should have its own language, for the sake of culture itself.
