It is extremely common for Chinese people to go to a restaurant and order what seems to be everything on the menu. It is often much more food than the people could possibly eat. Since usually one person is treating for the meal they want to show their generosity. It is common for only one menu to be at the table as well and the person treating for the meal will make all the ordering decisions.
