They are Chinese Pinyin Tones, four in total as 1, 2, 3 ,4
that is -, ´, ˇ,` in latin tones. There are also some words without tones, in this case, they pronounce softly.

notice that 们has a 人 in its left part, the meaning part, which is "human" or "person"; while the right part门indicates 们's pronounciation, so the right part is voice part. And the 们 can only be used in personal pronouns and nouns, they are not used to animals or things except in rhetoric.
Like我们、他们、它们、你们、孩子们、妈妈们、爸爸们、老师们、学生们、朋友们
but we cannot say车轮们、湖泊们、星星们、灰尘们
in the things case, we add 这些these or那些those on the nouns:
这些猴子、那些饼干
and们is used in unclear case, without specific numbers of these things, but when you want to define the number clearly on how many, you should use like this: the number + (classifier+, if necessary) noun (original form without any -ffix), like 三只猴子、两个人、一支笔、四辆汽车、一栋房子

I didn't know Japanese, and maybe I will learn it one year later. But I guess someday Japan will be enslaved and lose their language. So it's a bit useless.
