Hi! I was wondering if you could translate this for me, I know absolutely no Finnish, but I am singing this song in choir! All the online translations I can find are absolutely pathetic.
Rukous Tule kansani Herra Jeesus, tule siunaa päivan työ! Tule illoin ja aamuin varhain vielä kun joutuu yö, Tule illoin ja aamuin varhain vielä kun joutuu yö! Tule askele askleelta minun kansani kukemaan! Sua ilman en saata olla, pysy luonani ainiaan, Sua ilman en saata olla, pysy luonani ainiaan. Thanks! |

Good morning, Shaisy!
I will try to translate this prayer (=rukous) from Finnish to English via French. I've studied Finnish a long time ago but started again in 2003 when I cam back there again for holidays. This linguage is difficul but is a game with letters. I think that there were some mistakes when you wrote it again, e.g. : ... tule suinaa päivan työ < tule sinun päivän työ (?) tule askele askleeta < tule askele askelta Since it's poetic, I have some difficulties with two sections : tule sinua päivän työ : come (=tule) the work (työ) of your day (sinun päivän) ?? kukemaan : I cannot translate.. So : Prayer Come with me Dear Jesus (...) Come the evenings and the mornings early again when the night falls Come the evenings and the mornings early again when the night falls Come step by step with me (...) Without you, I cannot be, stay in me for the eternity Without you, I cannot be, stay in me for the eternity. I hope this with help you..with the help of God! All the best Alain a.rimbault@wanadoo.fr |

I think it goes like
Rukous Prayer Tule kanssani Herra Jeesus, tule siunaa päivan työ! Come with me dear jesus, come bless the work of the day Tule illoin ja aamuin varhain vielä kun joutuu yö, come in the evenings and in the mornings early again when the night comes Tule askel askeleelta minun kanssani lukemaan! Come step by step with me to read Sua ilman en saata olla, pysy luonani ainiaan, I can't be without you, stay with me forever There isn't such a word as 'kukemaan' .. but I think you ment 'lukemaan'. Also, 'kansani' means 'my people', but I guess that 'kanssani' fits with the sentence better ![]() |
