I am keen on listening different versions of a same song in several languages. A other language is another harmony. My mama told me once that she was totally unable to tell exactly the same story in 2 languages. (she is bilingual)
It is also funny to hear the swedish or the czech version of a song that was initially sung in English. For instance, did you know that the Beatles release a record in German, that the more-than-famous quartet ABBA sang in English, Swedish, German, French, Spanish, Czech and Russian???? I enjoy collecting the plurilingual versions of a same song too. Do you know "My Way" by Franck Sinatra? It was at the beginning a French song. And "Somewhere over the Rainbow"? It was made after a German melody from Saxony... The same goes for the American national anthem, whose melody was composed in Bremen centuries ago. I would be glad to talk about that with you, so that we can exchange what we know... |

I think it is impossible to translate a song correctly, because one has to take the rythm and the music itself into account. In my opinion they change the lyrics in order to adapt them to the music.
One can even ruin a beautiful song by translating it... (not in all the cases of course) and sometimes, it is even amusing hearing a song translated. The way they change the lyrics, sometimes it has got almost nothing in common with the original song. It depends of course... Nadine

Sure, absolutely, and that's why I suggest to post either sound files for the song extracts or the lyrics of the 2 versions so as to compare,... and to see sometimes how different they can be !!!
