Default What does the old Danish word "Urandsaglige" mean?

This is an old word that seems now obsolete but I have Danish text (see my "Saligheds Sag" thread) that has some very old words in it (from the 1700s). Perhaps I can ask about some of the other words I don't understand here also.

Now, Urandsaglig(e) seems to be connected to Randsag, which means "to search", but it seems to be used as an adjective. The google results (click here to see) only turn up 7 results and since I can't read Danish very good (though I'm working on it) I can't use context clues.

In my text it says, "Guds urandsaglige kaerlighed". Which I translate as "God's ______ love" and urandsaglige describing the character or type of love. Earlier in the text it was talking about God searching (randsag) the heart and mind, knowing all, and seeing that we were sinful and in need of help he saved us by his love. And then comes that phrase above which I cannot fully translate because of "urandsaglige". I assume it means something related to searching or looking?

Any help would be appreciated. Takk.

Default Danish translations move in mysterious ways

Hello,
You would have more luck searching your word spelled like this: "uransagelig". This is the contemporary spelling.

Maybe this international "saying" about God will help you out:
"Herrens veje er uransagelige" (In Danish)
Which appear to be in English:
"God moves in mysterious ways"

For me,"Guds urandsaglige kaerlighed", could be translated by "God's mysterious/impenetrable/... love", unless you find a better one.

Voilà!
I hope it helped.

Hey, I think you're right! Sweet. Thanks alot, Takk! So does a word with U prefix in front of it negate the word following like the English "un". Because if ransag means "search" then Uransag could concievably mean "unsearchable" (basically what you said). If so that will help me out with the other Danish words that start with U.

P.S. Would you mind if I put some other words up here that I can't understand? I wouldn't have a problem if the Danish was modern, but it's 250 years old! I could actually send you some pictures/scans of the pages that I have. I think you would probably just like the look of it. Anyways, I was just wondering if you would be willing to help out a little.

Thanks again,

~Josh
