Default What does the Danish/Norwegian words "Saligheds Sag" mean?

I'm having a gosh aweful time finding out what the Danish/Norwegian words "Saligheds Sag" mean. It is used in alot of Christian religious texts and "saligheds" might mean "delight" or according to some dictionaries "salvation". I don't know what "sag" means either, because I've seen several definitions for it which seem unrelated.

An example sentance it is found in would be :"hvad den opdukkende organiserede Indre Mission angår, forekom det dem at missionsfolk med deres missionshuse var for lidt kirketro og alt for sikre i deres saligheds sag."

The last part "sikre i deres saligheds sag" I think means "safe/secure in their...seligheds sag."

Here is also a line found in a hymn: "Jesus udaf Nazaret, Den korsgaestede, min aere og min salighed skal vaere."

In some texts "saligheds sag" is capitalized as if it is introducing a concept. And it appears that "salighed" is a word by itself so is the "S" at the end possessive? Is the word "salighet" (with a T - meaning "glory") related?

Can anyone help on translation here?

To me, "salighet" seems to be just the (newer) Norwegian version of the Danish "salighed", meaning "blessedness", "beatitude" and also "salvation".
"sag" means "cause", "matter" or "sake".
Concerning the "s" you are quite right about its possessive function.

As for the capitals, I don't know enough about religious concepts to tell you if you guessed correctly, but since both words are nouns, their capitalization in Danish might have the same origin as the capitalized nouns in German.

Tigrette

Thank you. That helps. Now I'll have to try to apply this to the 248 year old Christian Danish text that I'm attempting to translate. :-)

Would you be interested in double checking my first two lines of translation of the text in question?

Well, I can try. However, I am actually more familiar with Norwegian, so please don't expect my perfect competence in Danish :-)

wouldn't this be more like "sacred mission" ?

The missionaries with their mission/church were to strong belivers and convinced of their sacred/divine mission.

That's an interesting possibility. Have you read any Christian texts before that might have given you this impression?

Oh, I'm sorry, did you mean me to check these two sentences?
In any case, this is what I'd make of them...

[I guess your text said "den korsfæstede" ?]

"Jesus of Nazareth, the Crucified, my honnour and my salvation shall be."
