Default Suggestion

I don't know if you've arrived at a concluding answer to your questions or not, but after reading through the thread, I feel what is meant with the phrase saligheds sag is something along the lines of 'for the sake of salvation' or 'to salvations end'.

To do someone deceased a service to salvations end, would be doing something necessary for that someone to be saved, namely burying them through christian rites.

There could also be more meaning behind the phrase when it is used in different ways. I will ask an elderly acqauintance, ho has done missionary work for many years.

Thank you. I will put all these suggestions to good use when I attempt to translate the text some more. Thank all of you for the various insights. And that interperetation makes sense about how it can apply to Christian rites for the deceased. And if you talk to that minister tell me. Thanks again.

Apart from a few words my translation agrees with yours, only I'd make "the sermon" of "Prædiken" and "our own incapability" of "vor egen Uduelighed". The final part seems a bit tricky to me, too. Literally, "...og om Guds store Magt, til at giøre os duelige til alt Godt." means "...and of God's great power to make us capable of all Good." but I can't tell if this means that
a) God enables us to do good and be good
or b) God provides us with the means to reach The Good.
Presumably both. Thus "The Good" in version b) becomes our Saligheds Sag, our salvation, which we cannot reach on our own, but only after God has made us ready for it.
Thank you. That is immensely helpful. And judging from my familiarity with Christian writings I believe you are correct that your "version b)" interperetation is the proper sense of the the sentance. Thank you again for helping me. If you ever want to look at those pictures just tell me.

I just found a Danish dictionary entry for Saligheds Sag, but it's well... in Danish. Can any one please translate it for me. I would be extremely grateful.

The Link is here.
