Default PAST TENSE OF THE REGULAR VERBS 2nd ENDING : ER

Now the verbs ending in ER ...
.
The past tense endings are: i, este, eu, emos, estes, eram

BATER = to beat, hit ..

BAT/ er
eu batI
tu batESTE
ele/a batEU
nós batEMOS
vós bat ESTES
eles/as batERAM

we do the same with verbs like.. comer (to eat), temer (to fear, be afraid), beber(to drink), descer ( to go down), crescer (to grow up), responder (to answer),conhecer (to know a subject for example) etc...

let`s take one more verb.. CRESCER.....

CRESC/er

eu crescI
tu crescESTE
ele/a crescEU
nós crescEMOS
vós crescESTES
eles/as crescERAM

One interesting thing about CRESCER , DESCER (verbs like SC+ vowel) is that it only is C before vowels E and I. With the other vowel we add Ç (cedilha accent - and this occurs in any word too)

eg: when I conjugate CRESCER , DESCER in the present :
eu cresÇO, tu cresces, ele cresce, nós crescemos, vós cresceis, eles crescem. ( as you see it changes only in the 1st person EU because we have to add O in it). In the past tense there is no problem or change because all the vowels are E and one I.

In common words: caÇAda (hunting), diCIonário (dictionary), CECÍlia ( a girl name),coÇAr (scratch), CEmitério (cemitery)...

As you can notice, just the E, I do not take the Ç in verbs, words, etc..
