False cognates from English to Brazilian Portuguese
Olá a todos!! This time I would like to show you all about some words in English which are very similiar to Portuguese ones, but they have a completly different meaning... Let`s see some of them..
ENGLISH WORD PORTUGUESE SIMILAR WORD REAL MEANING: PUSH puxe pull PULL empurre push PRETEND pretender intend INTEND entender understand ACTUALLY atualmente (ly -adverb sufix = mente in PT) nowadays ATTEND atender answer (the phone for eg.) I noticed that you wrote some words that are considered false cognates (faux amis) even in French,
ACTUALLY doesn't mean Actuellement (at the present time or like you said nowadays) REALIZE doesn't mean Réaliser (make things come true / possible)
