olá! Slangs are interesting because they can also be a way to communicate with a local people. Here they are:

"TO" NEM AÍ = I do not mind, care. ( "TO".. - is the short form of ESTOU- of course it is not a correct Portuguese lol)
CARA DE PAU = well there is no relative in English but it is a person who is not ashamed of doing wrong things or even asking difficult favors to someone. (the nearest translation is : wooden face)
(TRADUZIR )AO PÉ DA LETRA= is to say something very very close and specific to the original meaning even it does not make sense to foreigners. In this case "translate something as it really says ".
CARA = related to GUY in English. You address to boys and girls but remember it is a young slang so in certain formal situations it is not polited. The word CARA "ao pé da letra" means also a slang for :FACE.
NINGUÉM MERECE= an ironic expression = "NOBODY DESERVES IT". When you feel like being cheated or bothered etc..
MATAR (A)AULA= ao pé da letra = KILL YOUR CLASS- is when you don`t feel like going to class because you are lazy or you plan going somewhere and you miss it. lol
COLAR NA PROVA= cheat during your school test. Copying things to your test.
COLAR = is the verb STICK (with glue) lol so you can figure the sense of this slang. When we paste words and phrases on the computer we also say COLAR.
CALA A BOCA = shut up
QUE SITUAÇÃO!!/ OLHA A SITUAÇÃO = very funny and ironic saying when you are in an embarrassing situation or something related to it. "Ao pé da letra" means = WHAT SITUATION I AM, OLHA A SITUAÇÃO = "LOOK AT THE SITUATION YOU ARE!!!"

Cara de pau in moroccan is translated as mkazder and it's used exactly in the same circumstances. it doesn't exist in arabic but it just came to my mind when you talked about it. intetesting words you got here. slang is very important, and sometimes it may even give locals the impression that you speak the language fluently, so you can fool locals with some slang

A slang is not beautiful way of expressing words but it really makes difference to those foreigners who know it.

I was searching for Brazilian slag and found your thread. It's very interesting. I'm actually writing a story and my character, who doesn't speak Portugues, is trying to use Brazilian slang. He's in Brazil and doesn't speak Portugues. Well he keeps misusing it and getting himself in trouble. Are you still adding to the slang thread?

I'm doing research for a story which is partly about Manaus, Brazil. I am hoping to find someone who would be willing to answer a few questions and help me understand the slang. I am particularly interested in slang words my character could confuse easily and say something funny, but not get beat up over. Right now I would appreciate some help asking about boats to buy. Is there slang for boat, for buying boat, slang for something that is a great deal?

Well, unfortunately I don't speak much portuguese and I am unable to help you for this.... but you may try to contact _|h|A|R|D|y|__|b|U|d|d|Y| ... as far as I remember he is fond of slangs, I don't know whether he can help or not though.
