Hi, people again. This time I`ll talk a bit about male / female words. Most of them are formed by an O at the end of the word for MALES and an A at the end of the words for FEMALE.I know that causes some mistakes sometimes because in many languages (like English) such words have no gender. But it is easy...Let`s take a look at them: First remember, the articles for them are: THE = O (male singular), A (female singular), OS (male plural), AS (female plural). A/ AN/ SOME/ ANY = um (="a" singular male), uma (= "a "singular female), uns ( ="some/ any" plural male), umas (= "some/ any" plural female). There is only one form for some/ any in portuguese, so you can use UM, UMA, UNS and UMAS in affirmative, interrogative or negative sentences, ok? ![]() MALE (MASCULINO) FEMALE (FEMININO) amigo amiga = friend bonito bonita = handsome/beautiful casado casada = married príncipe princesa = prince/ princess conde condessa = count/ countess feio feia = ugly empregado empregada = employee ("empregada" can also be = "maid ") garoto garota = boy / girl querido querida = dear, darling (in both senses) gostoso gostosa = delicious, good (generally used for food) mentiroso mentirosa = liar americano americana = American brasileiro brasileira = Brazilian escondido escondida = hidden simpático simpática = a nice person bom boa = good obrigado obrigada = thanks papai mamãe = dad / mom pai mãe = father/ mother irmão irmã = brother / sister tio tia = uncle/ aunt esquecido esquecida = forgotten leão leoa = lion / lioness gato gata = cat advogado advogada = lawyer assassino assassina = murderer professor professora = teacher supervisor supervisora = supervisor diretor diretora = director , principal Well as you can see most of them make the female ends in A and the male in O. Just some words like "príncipe / princesa" male ends in E. Others, have only one gender like...o segredo = the secret o livro = the book o tempo = the weather a temperatura = the temperature a criança = the child a vítima = the victim a alegria = happiness a vitória = (the) victory a tristeza = sadness a beleza = beauty a sacola. a bolsa = the bag o supermercado = the supermarket Some of them have diferent male/ female : homem mulher = man / woman rei rainha = king / queen boi vaca = ox / cow réu ré = the acccused (in law) ladrão ladra = thief Others, you know its gender by putting the male/ female article in front: o chefe - a chefe = the boss ( o = male / a = female) o aniversariante - a aniversariante = the one whose birthday is today (m/f) o gerente - a gerente = the manager (m/f) HOPE IT ALL HELP YOU WHEN YOU COME TO BRAZIL hehhhe lol bye bye for now. Até logo!!
