SÃO PAULO STATE
In its 451 years old, a small village around the jesuítas (priests) college became the second biggest city in Latin America and one of the biggest cities of the planet which population is over 10 million inhabitants. São Paulo cannot deny the habit of working and the vocation to business. Therefore be known as the most important state economically speaking in Latin America, only with too much effort But the state is not only this. Economy: The state is responsible for approximately one-third of Brazilian GNP. Its economy is based in machinery, the automobile and aviation industries, textiles, orange, soil, sugar cane and coffee production. Let me explain something which causes mistakes among foreigners. There is São Paulo state, which is located in Southeast Region of Brazil and there is also another São Paulo, which is a city and this state`s capital. A person who was born in SP city is named PAULISTANO and a person who was born in SP state is named PAULISTA. São Paulo city has about 10.000 restaurants with a different gastronomy, more than 70 shopping centers, the third biggest taxi fleet in Latin America, subways in SP. City transport more than 516 passengers a year, Cumbica airport is the biggest of South America, makes more than 500 flights a day. São Paulo city is the biggest Japanese city after Japan, Lebanese city after Lebanon, Portuguese, after Portugal, Spanish after Spain and the 3rd Italian city after Italy. As you see, many immigrants are in SP. City. Praça da República (Repulica square) is one of the known places in SP where craft fairs take places. Avenida Paulista is the busiest business center of the city. Brás, Bexiga and Barra Funda are 3 important commercial districts of the city where most of the italian immigrants live. Liberdade is another important district which has a Japanese colony and keep its people`s tradition. Other places like : Praça da Sé, Vale do Anhangabaú, Largo São Francisco, Avenida Ipiranga, Avenida São João, Praça da República, Morumbi Stadium,Interlagos,Rua 25 de Março,Pinacoteca (where important exhibitions take place),Ibirapuera Park, Viaduto do Chá etc.. are very known, too. Night life in SP city is very exciting. Many night clubs, bars, movies, theaters , shows etc.. garantee the Paulistano enterteiment. Mountain cities: Campos do Jordão, São Francisco Xavier, Santo Antônio do Pinhal. Mineral Water resorts: Águas de Lindóia, Lindóia, Águas de Santa Bárbara, Águas da Prata, Serra Negra, São Pedro, Águas de São Pedro, Socorro, Monte Alegre do Sul. Places for Ecological Tourism: the city of Brotas; Serra da Bocaina National Park; Touristical Park of Alto Ribeira (PETAR); Juréia Ecological Reservation; the island of Ilhabela; trekking in Serra do Mar mountain ridge. Beach cities: Peruíbe, Itanhaém, São Vicente, Santos, Guarujá, Bertioga, São Sebastião, Ilhabela, Caraguatatuba, Ubatuba. Places to buy handcrafts or pottery: Campos do Jordão (wool articles); Serra Negra (candies); Pedreira (pottery). Rodeo Festivals: The most well known is the one that happens in the city of Barretos, named Festa do Peão de Boiadeiro; rodeo festivals also occur in the cities of Americana and Jaguariúna.
