Greetings.
I would be extremely appreciative if the following phrases could be translated from English into Turkish: "I support peace in a united Cyprus for all Cypriots" "Let's fight for the re-establishment of an independent and impartial Cypriot nation/state for all Cypriots" "I demand: removal of all Turkish troops; repatriation of all colonists; return of all refugees" Thank you very much in advance. (Note: Please do not misunderstand my final message as being anti-Turkist. It most definitely is not. I am a Greek Cypriot who would love to learn Turkish and the final phrase is from Lobby for Cyprus) Last edited by Kypros; 01-05-2008 at 06:51 PM. |

Thanks very much for the translation!
I used "troops" as "soldiers". I'm sure you're aware of the situation in Cyprus regarding Turkish soldiers. I would like to re-iterate that my post is not anti-Turkist. I object to the presence of the Turkish (and Greek!) troops in Cyprus and also the 'legitimacy' of the settlement of Turkish mainlanders in Cypriot occupied regions since 1974. In fact, I just want re-unification for the people of my country - whatever their ethnic background - and I intend to learn Turkish in the near future(have already got a grammar book and dictionary). I love trying to work out the structure of Turkish sentences. If you don't mind, could you now give a literal, verbatim transcription of the Turkish sentenes in English? For example, my limited knowledge of Turkish tells me that the first sentence would literally be: "All Cypriots for united a (one) Cyprus in peace I support". If you can't that's OK. I understand you're a busy translator who needs to answer others too! Thanks again. Kypros. |

Hi again, mrym.
What I mean is that the literal, word-for-word translation of "Bütün Kıbrıslılar için birleşmiş bir Kıbrıs'da barışı destekliyorum" would be: Bütün Kıbrıslılar için| birleşmiş bir | Kıbrıs'da barışı | destekliyorum All Cypriots for | united one| Cyprus in peace| I support But in order to be coherent in English, it is rendered: "I support peace in a united Cyprus for all Cypriots" Understand? I was just wondering if you could break down the other translations like I did above. Thanks again. Kypros. (EDIT: I forgot to ask, if it's not too much, how to say in Turkish: "I want to see in Cyprus a future of/with peace, respect, and equality for all Cypriots").
