possessive pronouns: araba= car arabam= my car araban= your car arabası= her/his car arabamız= our car arabanız= your car arabaları= their car

In Turkish, we also have possessive pronouns that we may sometimes use separately (I mean not as endings) :
Benim = my (can also mean mine) Senin = your (yours) Onun = his/her (his/hers) Bizim = our (ours) Sizin = your (yours) Onların = their (theirs)

indeed formality has nothing to do with all this. There is a rule I'll tell you later about it. But what u can do for the moment is just follow the examples which speak for themselves, don't they? good luck!
