Hi,

is there any difference of meaning between "the intellect" and "the intelligence"?

Intelligence : capacité à acquerir et à utiliser la connaissance, faculté de penser, de comprendre
Intellect= capacité à apprendre, à raisonner

Des notions très proches (voire égale).

En pratique , l'esprit (mind) est souvent utilisé comme synonyme d'intellect. Intelligence a également plus de "sens" qu'intellect (plus basé sur l'esprit) dans son utilisation.
On utilise Intelligence pour parler de l'espionnage par exemple (intelligence devient un synonyme de service secret) ou pour désigner une personne: "une intelligence supérieure".

I would add that "intelligence" can (in theory, at least) be measured: a higher or lower intelligence... whereas intellect is often used in contrast to other human attributes such as emotion or religious faith.

so u mean that intellect is more like an abstract concept, it's actually the notion of intelligence, isn't it?
As to the translation to French, according to napalm , then I should just use the same words in French.
Also, if "mind" means "esprit", what would be the French for "spirit"?
Again, is there any difference of meaning between "the spirit" and "the soul"?
I personnaly tend to translate both by "âme", is that right???

Yes, Senni

"Spirit" is litterally translated by "esprit" too but it takes a "religious" or "metaphysical" sense.
The meaning is closer to soul (âme).

Spirit = esprit
soul = âme
Il y a une nuance religieuse, mais les 2 sont des concepts abstraits très proches et souvent utilisés comme synonymes.
