J'ai fait une première ébauche de traduction de mon portfolio d'artiste mais suis plus que certain qu'il y a de très nombreuses fautes syntaxiques, grammaticales et autres... Depuis sa naissance en 1988, Félix Girard demeure au creux des montagnes dans la vallée de Sainte-Brigitte-de-Laval, près de Québec, au Canada. Artiste illustrateur, peintre et dessinateur autodidacte, il se voue à la création et à l’exploration de l’imaginaire par la libre expression et association de personnages, de formes et de lieux sortis tout droit de son univers personnel. Poursuivant la tradition familiale, son père et sa mère étant tous deux artistes peintres, Félix a débuté dans l’atelier commun en découvrant et en explorant différents médiums et techniques. S’adonnant d’abord plus particulièrement au dessin, il se consacre maintenant davantage à la peinture à l’acrylique et à divers médiums au service de l’illustration. Influencé dans un premier temps par la bande dessinée et par des dessinateurs comme Brian Froud, Félix trouve désormais son inspiration dans les peintres de la Renaissance européenne du Nord à l’instar de Bruegel, Bosch, Dürer et Vermeer, ainsi que dans les mouvements surréalistes et symbolistes.

Since is born in 1988, Félix Girard lives in the hill of Sainte-Brigitte-de-Laval, near from Quebec city, in Canada. He is an autodidact illustrator and painter who employ himself to the creation and the exploration of imaginary by the association of forms, places and characters coming right from his own personal universe. In the line of his family traditions, his mother and his father being painters as well, Félix began in the common workshop, discovering and exploring different kinds of mediums and techniques. Applying himself in a first time to drawing, he now devotes is time to acrylic painting and to some mediums serving illustration. Influenced in his beginnings by comic books and by illustrators like Brian Froud, Felix now founds is inspiration in Renaissance painters like Brueghel, Bosh, Dürer and Vermeer and in surrealist and symbolist movements.

Bien qu’il n’ait jamais cessé de réaliser de petits contrats d’illustrations et de produire sur une base régulière de nouvelles toiles, la carrière artistique de Félix a débuté plus officiellement avec sa première exposition solo qui a eu lieu en mai 2007 au bar L’INOX de Québec. Cette exposition charnière, dans laquelle les toiles de Félix ont été rassemblées et montrées pour la première fois, a permis à l’artiste de connaître l’appréciation générale du public quant à son travail; dans les premières heures qui ont suivies le lancement officiel de l’exposition la presque totalité des toiles présentes ont été vendues. Heureuse nouvelle, certes, mais bémol : des engagements avaient été pris pour trois autres expositions au cours des mois qui suivaient. Félix a donc peint le plus clair de son temps cet été afin de produire de nouvelles toiles pour combler ses expositions ainsi que pour honorer ses nombreuses commandes et a donc fait de la peinture son activité principale.

Even if he never stopped doing some little contracts and producing on a regular basis some new paintings, Felix’s artistic career has started more officially with his first exhibition in may 2007 at the pub L’INOX, in Quebec city. This exhibition was a turning point: Felix’s works were gathered together and showed for the first time, which permit Felix to know the public appreciation; In the first few hours of the exhibition almost all of his paintings were sold. Happy event, of course, but Felix had took some commitments for tree other exhibitions for the months following. So, he painted most of the time this summer to produce many new paintings for his exhibitions and to honor is numerous orders.

Cette année, Félix a choisi de partir vivre en France afin d’acquérir davantage d’expérience artistique, de voir et de s’ouvrir à de nouveaux lieux et à de nouveaux gens qui, sans aucun doute, serviront d’inspiration pour des œuvres futures. Heureusement, Félix bénéficie pour ce faire de l’appui financier d’un mécène québécois et a déjà de nombreuses commandes en attente ainsi que plusieurs projets qui sauront l’occuper pendant un moment.

For the current year, Felix choose to go live in France for gaining more artistic experience and for seeing new places and new peoples who will serve as an inspiration for his next works. Fortunately, Felix benefits from the financial support of a patron from Quebec and already have many painting orders in list.

While continuing to fulfil his illustration contracts and producing his own artworks, Felix really started his public artistic career with his first exhibition in May 2007 at the pub L’INOX, in Quebec City. This exhibition was a turning point: Felix’s works were gathered together and showed for the first time, permitting him to get a feel for the public appreciation of his work. Indeed, in the first few hours of the exhibition almost all of his paintings were sold! This was good news, of course, but Felix had already committed three other exhibitions to take place in the following months. So, this summer, he painted around the clock to produce new paintings for the exhibitions and to honour numerous orders.

This year, Felix has decided to go to live in France to gain artistic experience and to see new places and people to serve as inspiration in his work. Fortunately, Felix benefits from the financial support of a Quebec sponsor and he already has his order book fairly well filled.
