Merci d'avanceThe Task: You are required to write an essay of between 1700 and 2200 words (word count to be explicitly stated at the end of the essay) on one of the two following subjects: Title: The existence of genres on the World-Wide Web General guidance and expected content for each of these essays is shown below. 1.The existence of genres on the World-Wide Web -A broad-based analysis may be taken or a narrower, focused analysis on what you consider constitutes an identifiable genre on the World-Wide Web. -In the broad-based essay you are likely to look at different genres, what makes these sites similar and what differentiates them from each other. -In the more narrowly focused essay you would clearly identify a genre and the various characteristics which mark it out as a type. You should give indications why this combination of genre-defining characteristics identifies your genre and not others. -You may need to support your argument in either case by providing evidence through a series of screen captures of websites or other sorts of diagrams. -Any screen captures should be appended in hard copy to the essay and each screen capture (perhaps in colour, if that is an issue you address) should be of appropriate size to show the relevant points addressed in the essay and be clearly referenced from within the text. Assessment Criteria: -For both essays, the structure and quality of argument will be the main criteria. -The scope of the investigation and argument will also form part of the marking criteria. - Correct and reasonably comprehensive citation and referencing of relevant examples and academic literature will be assessed. -Grammar and readability of the essay as a whole will count. -The overall structure and flow of the content of the essay will be assessed. -Word count should be explicitly stated at the end of the essay. For Essay: The existence of genres on the World-Wide Web These are the things expected in this essay: -Detailed observation of websites -Identification of genre characteristics -Annotated support for genre identification by examples. These will apply to either a broader or narrowly-focused essay on web genres because differentiation of sites into genres, or an analysis which shows that identifiable genres do not really exist, will require close observation and interpretation of a number of similar sites or the same for a wide range of sites.
