Merci pour m'avoir répondu. Je suppose que je veux dire quelque chose comme (en anglais, bien s[size=4][size=2]ûr) "I want to arrange all of them." Alors, est-ce que cela pourrais donner "Je veux m'arranger de tout," ou bien, "je veux m'en arranger tous ? (construction plutôt espagnole, désolé ) Bon, je vais éditer mon message un peu. Non, ce n'est pas ce que j'ai dit d'abord. Je le sais moi-même. Alors ... Je veux en arranger tous ? Je veux les arranger tous? Aidez-moi s'il vous plaît. Je veux vraiment qu'on m'éclaircisse sur ce point.

Hello!

Pourrais-t-on traduire "I want to line the pieces up" par "Je veux s'en arranger tous" aussi ? Merci d'avance à celui qui m'aidera.
According to the dictionary, to 'line up' means either:

1. arrange in a line or lines.

In this case, I would translate 'line up' by 'aligner' in French, which would yield "Je veux aligner les morceaux" as translation.

OR

2. have ready; organise

This time, I would opt for "Je veux organiser les morceaux" as translation.

In fact, 'organise' means, according to the English dictionary, 'give an orderly struture to' and correspondingly, the French dictionary provides 'préparer dans un but et selon un plan précis' as definition for 'organiser'.

I believe that "I want to line the pieces up" conveys the idea of providing an orderly structure to, or arranging the pieces. Since the two versions are equally valid, you are free to choose either of them which you deem best suited to the context in which it is being applied.

Hi NAR

Your translations seem pretty fine, but they are a bit to literal according to me. I mean in a poem or in song lyrics you have to try to find the best saying to fit the idea of the source language, not necessariliy perform a word to word translation. That's why I ended up with "raccrocher les wagons" or any similar typically french expressions.

Coucou!

Je n'avais pas remarqué qu'il s'agissait de paroles de chansons. C'est vrai que "Je veux aligner/ organiser les morceaux" est un peu trop formel dans ce cas-ci. Il est, de ce fait, préférable d'avoir recours aux expressions typiquement Françaises.

Ciao!
