Dear friends,

Could you translate for me in french the following expression, used in car vocabulary,"to throw a rod"?

Cher FD,
Il me manque le vocabulaire automotif francais, mais je crois que je peux quand-meme t' expliquer la signification de cette phrase...il s'agit d'une deconnerie totale d'un moteur, lorsque la bielle (rod) qui est mise en marche par les pistons se casse (throw). Bien qu'on puisse reparer un tel degat, normalement les frais de reparateur surpassent le prix d'une nouvelle voiture. Maintenant c'est a toi de trouver les mots justes en francais, je suis curieux d'en savoir moi-meme.

"Péter une bielle" ? "Couler un bielle" ?
"Péter une bielle" peut également se prendre au sens figuré, mais ne convient pas au language soigné. Mais n'ayant pas de connaissance en mécanique, je ne suis pas sûr si ça correspond tout à fait.
