Excerpt from The Psychology of Everyday Living *by Ernest Dichter (1947)***Much of this guilt feeling can be traed directly to one's first cigarette, which the older generation remember as a forbidden and sinful thing. Their fathers considered the habit an educational problem, whereas many parents nowadays have adopted a "modern" attitude toward smoking. Here is what one such father said: "I told my son I thought he was a little young... He is seventeen. It might not do him any harm to wait another year or two. Then I remembered my own first cigarette and what awful stuff I had to smoke in secret. In a way, my son is lucky to be able to start with a good cigarette without running the danger of ruining his health. I gave him a pack of the brand I smoke."

Addiction of any kind is not good for health be it smoking, alcohol or drugs. Once a person gets addicted to such things then it's very tough to get over it because of the addictive nature of these things. It takes immense will power and dedication to get over such habits. I quit smoking on Chantix though I have tried to do cold turkey on two occasions, but of no use. I have smoked for around 5 yrs with pack a day. Thanks to chantix and the support my family provided me. Best luck to all those who want to give up there habits.

What you did is still toleration to smoke. Whatever age your son maybe, still, you are letting him experience the smoking chemicals. Though for some reasons, body defenses get stronger when these children grow yet you should be concerned enough to know the consequence when he reaches the point that his body cannot any longer defend the hazardous chemicals.
