Hope someone can help-this comes from Euro 1988 semi/final Holland/Germany
In der 74 Minute erreicht ein messerscharfer,herrlicher Steilpab Marco van Basten,der dreht sich,Kohler gratscht und trifft den Ball,der Hollander fallt dennoch-Elfer.Thanks

Maybe someone familiar with football, or I guess, soccer, could do this better than I did; this is a description of a play, but I'm not familiar with sports terms and sports announcer lingo and don't know what a "Steilpab" is:

In the 74 minute, a splendid, knife sharp/dead on target?? reaches Marco van Basten, who turns, straddles Kohler, and kicks the ball, however, the Dutch player falls - 11.

Messerscharf literally means knife sharp, but not knowing what a Steilpab is, it's hard to say...it could mean a line drive, dead on target, right on...I guess kick, if this is soccer. Hope this helps.

Yes it is soccer-sorry!.The Steilpab,is a through pass(which will explain the razor sharp piece!Thank you.

OK! And Henni picked up on that too...it should be Steilpass, sometimes you don't see the woods for the trees! The German double S looks a lot like a 'B,' and some people try to substitute a 'B' for it if they don't have a German keyboard, but writing it as 'ss' is just as correct.
As I said, I'm not a sports person, so the misspelled word looked really odd to me.
