The european scholars use spaces to simplify reading. Nowadays it is a good custom to write with spaces. The picture was from the book perhaps of the end of XIX century (I'm not shure because it is without title page) and writing without spaces at that time was OK. But how can you say that today it is wrong? What does mean this insignificant passed century in comparision with the many-thousand-year history of Sanskrit? I think even today you can freely write without spaces if you like it.
