Lina is a glorious beacon of light

Hi ! Did anyone see "The Constant Gardener" ? It's about a diplomat's wife in Kenya who's murdered ; everybody agrees to say that she was unfaithful and killed by her lover, but the husband doesn't believe it and investigates.
I think it's really a good movie ; there's suspence and, moreover, it also denounces how pharmaceutic firms test new medicines on African people, considering them less than dogs. Here, it's fiction, but all these practices are unfortunately ( for them and us... ) a reality. The landscape is gorgeous too : all the outside scenes were really shot in Kenya ( !!!!! ), which seldom happens nowadays. Last edited by Lina; 01-01-2006 at 03:35 PM. |

Saw it tonight. It's an excellent movie and I'm surprised there haven't been responses about it. The world is so corrupted it's not even funny. It actually makes me mad to see these things happen which is why I hate large firms or corporations in general. You should see what Nike and Walt Disney use to do (or probably still do) in Haiti. That's a whole new post in itself which I'm too tired to type about now, but definitely tomorrow if I have time. Anyone who hasn't seen "The Constant Gardener" should do so. Rent it out, watch it and educate yourselves about the things which go on around the world.

I totally agree with you. The way some people are exploited by firms, just because they're poor, is absolutely unbearable. Did you see "Hotel Rwanda", another film by Terry George, with Don Cheadle and Joaquin Phoenix, which was released about last April ? I was really ashamed of being from the North when I saw all these white people leaving the hotel while they perfectly knew the Rwandian ones were almost bound to be killed by the Interhamwe.
