SO HAVE YOU DITCHED THE FALSE NAILS AND HAIR STRAIGHTENERS FOR GOOD THEN, ZOE?

Well the door has been left open for me, but obviously its one of those things - never say never!

WILL THIS SERIES OF FOOTBALLERS WIVES BE AS SAUCY AS EVER? WEVE HEARD ITS GOING TO BE TONED DOWN A LITTLE...

There are no saucy scenes as babies are involved in this series. All thats behind Tanya now.

WILL YOU MISS THE RUDE BITS?

Its part of the job. you look at the script and go 'Right, Ok' You just focus on it and do it.

TANYA WEARS SOME AMAZING OUTFITS. DO YOU GET TO KEEP THEM?

If we want to buy the outfits, we can get them for half price. After the first series, I bought a black Joseph suit and a couple of shirt, but then the character developed and the costumes became more and more elaborate and started to move further and further away from the sort of stuff i would wear.

SO DO YOU HAVE TO KEEP THE FAKE NAILS ON AT HOME?

I do, but they are so long - they are totally impractical! They keep coming off. At first i used to go to the salon and have them redone, but by the end the make-up artist and i were just doig them ourselves.

IT SOUNDS LIKE A NIGHTMARE!

There are so many things you take for granted when you have short nails. You cant even button your clothes with falso ones! And jewellery is the most annoying! I coulndnt wear it unless someone helped me to put it on.

BUT THEY'RE AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE CHARCTER, ARENT THEY?

Oh yes! They show Tanya doesn't lift a finger around the house, but it was hugely frustrating for me because im actually a very practical person.

AND WHAT ABOUT THE HAIR?

Its pretty straight anyway, but i had to use straightening irons to get it poker straight. It was very important in the first series to etablish Tanya with this perfect short, sharp, blonde bob.

DIT IT RUIN YOUR HAIR AND NAILS?

My nails are definitly not great. But i have got an awesome hairdresser who uses the most gentle products on my hair.

WELL MAKE NO BONES ABOUT IT - TANYAS A MEGA-BITCH! WHAT SORT OF RESPONSE DO YOU GET THESE DAYS FROM THE PUBLIC?

I have been really lucky. People tend to like the character, even though shes a calculating bitch who murders people. They see the comedy side in her and that she has a vulnerable side too. Theyre always really nice.

WAS IT STRANGE TAKING THE SAME CHARACTER INTO BAD GIRLS?

It was weird and scary. Obviously i had seen Bad Girls and i knew the charcaters but it was daunting and i was petrified on my first morning! But the cast made me feel really welcome and i had a great time.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE TANYA IN ANY OTHER SHOWS?

It was interesting to see her out of the Footballers Wives context. From that point of view, it worked really well, but id like to leave it there, othrwise it could get out of hand.

WE CAN REALLY SEE HER BEHIND THE BAR IN CORONATION STREET...

Oh no! Could you imagine? (laughs) I think its best to leave her where she is.

ARE YOU FRIENDS WITH THE GIRLS ON THE SET?

We get on really well. Laila (Rouass, who plays Amber) is fantastic. I still see Ben (Price, who plays Conrad). We all still hang out together.

THERE HAVE BEEN RUMOURS YOU AND LAILA DONT GET ON...

I was really upset about that story. I really like Laila and we have a good laugh together. We respect each other completely. We are very different people, but we like each other alot. I actually dont dislike anyone. Its not a nice quality in a person.

WHAT DID YOU THINK OF JORDAN WHEN SHE CAME ON SET FOR THE LAST SERIES?

She was lovely - a really nice girl. I didnt do any acting with her but we said hello and had some photo done.

DO YOU THINK SHE COULD HAVE A FUTURE IN ACTING?

I dont think she would want to, because she enjoys what she does. She was quite nervous, but if she wanted to go into acting, im sure she could.

IF YOU WERE A REAL FOOTBALLERS WIFE, WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO BE YOUR HUSBAND?

Alan Shearer! he seems like a good person, a good dad, and a loyal, kind man. Not that id ever want to be married to a footballer though!

DID YOU ENJOY FILMING NEW ARMY DRAMA BOMBSHELL?

Yes it was great. It was quite weird to go from playing Tanya to being a completely diffreent character in terms of costume and personality - nd everything really. It was a good opporutnity.

YOU MUST BE GLAD NOT TO HAVE BEEN TYPECAST...

That was really important. Tanya was a great character but, as an actor, you want to keep doing different roles. Itll be interesting to see the reactions to it.

AND YOU'VE GON BRUNETTE FOR THE PART. DO YOU RECKON BLONDES HAVE MORE FUN?

Because i was working such long hours and not going out socially during filming, i couldnt really ay if blondes have more fun! I enjoyed having my hair dark, but i do fell more like me with it blonde. Ive had it like that for 30 years so it feels more comfortable like that.

YOU WERE IN CORRIE FOR TWO EPISODES. WHAT WAS THAT LIKE?

I played a character called Sonia who was the head beautician who sacked Raquel. It was great working with Sarah Lancashire and being involved with something like Coro. Its weird, because when youre a young girl watching the show, you never think youll meet these people-let alone act opposite them.

SO WHATS NEXT FOR YOU THEN?

Im not 100 percent sure what my next role will be. Its exciting because everything is uncertain. But its also quite scary!

ARE THERE ANY OTHER TV SHOWS YOUD LOVE TO APPEAR IN?

Desperate Housewives is fantastic, and i would love to be in that. But then i look at shows i enjoy and the characters in them, and i think it might spoil it for me if i ws in it!

SO DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS TO CRACK AMERICA?

Not at the moment as im really enjoying being in England. I think British drama is great and i would love to do a British film. If an offer came in from Hollywood for a meeting, though, id go. I dont feel the need to go there right now, but im sure i will.



Interview with Footballers Wives Producer 2005 (Series 4)

TELL US WHAT IS GOING ON FOR TANYA IN SERIES FOUR:
At the beginning of this series Tanya is pregnant and then during the first episode she has the baby – but it’s not as simple as that… Tanya is concerned about the identity of the father so has a wicked plan to make things turn out just perfect!

DESCRIBE HOW SHE IS COPING WITH HER PREGNANCY.
I think Tanya is in a denial about her pregnancy – and it hasn’t affected the way she lives her life!

HOW IS TANYA COPING LIVING UNDER THE SAME ROOF AS CONRAD AND AMBER?
She’s fine living with Conrad but Amber is a complete pain.

ARE THERE MORE CAT FIGHTS PLANNED BETWEEN AMBER AND TANYA? AND WILL THERE BE A WINNER? Oh yes!

WE HAVE HEARD THAT TANYA HAS AN EVIL PLAN UP HER SLEEVE WITH THE BABIES - WHICH INVOLVES NURSE DUNKLEY. WAS IT FUN FILMING ALL THOSE ‘DASTARDLY’ SCENES?
It was great fun filming all the scenes in the hospital and it was good to have Nurse Dunkley back – Julie Le Grand who plays her is lovely. I think I got it easy though as poor Laila ended up sitting in a birthing pool for hours.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE STORYLINE FROM THE SERIES FOUR?
I think swapping the babies would be my favourite storyline from this series – it’s just so wicked.

DO YOU THINK SERIES FOUR DIFFERS FROM THE OTHER SERIES AT ALL?
Yes, I think all the characters have been developed considerably.

IT WAS THAILAND FOR SERIES 3 –SERIES FOUR THE SHOW IS IN SPAIN. YOU ENDED UP FILMING SOME SCENES IN SPAIN – HOW WAS IT?
It was great filming in both those locations. I loved filming in both Thailand and Spain –it really is a perk of the job!

DO YOU REMEMBER A FAVOURITE LINE FROM SERIES FOUR?
I think my favourite line from Series Four is during the first episode when Tanya and Nurse Dunkley are discussing Amber’s baby, the one that was originally Tanya’s before she swapped it. Tanya says “Yeah, well let’s just hope little Popadom, or whatever she’s called it, doesn’t start looking like his (father). Amber might start asking questions if she’s singing lullabies to a big fat bloater with a Brummie accent.”

WHAT IS YOUR ALL TIME FAVOURITE TANYA’ISM?
There are so many! I particularly love when she adapts words so I loved it when she said “mentalist”. But it’s hard to choose her best as she does have some wonderful dialogue.

SHE HAD A SPELL IN PRISON - HAS THIS AFFECTED HER AT ALL?
No, Tanya seems to have bounced back very well after prison.

WAS IT SAD SAYING GOODBYE TO THE CHARACTER AND THE CREW?
It was very sad saying goodbye to the character of Tanya and of course I also had to say goodbye to the cast and crew too, many of them had worked on all four series.

YOU GOT SOME FUN PRESENTS ON YOUR LAST DAY – WAS IT A GOOD SEND OFF?
I got a wonderful send off on my last day. It was brilliant and everyone was so kind. I was given a pocket sized Tanya complete with the nails, hair and cigarettes.

IF YOU COULD KEEP ONE ITEM OF TANYA’S WARDROBE OR PROPS WHAT WOULD YOU KEEP?
I would love to keep quite a few mementoes but I particularly would like to have had the huge engagement ring she got from Jason. It was huge and the stone was the size of a 1 pence piece!

WE’VE HEARD TANYA LEAVES THE SHOW AFTER EPISODE FOUR - CAN YOU TELL US HOW?
No – I won’t reveal how she exits - but it’s a brilliant story. I went straight onto filming the character of Jenna in Bombshell. There was not much time between the two shows so it was a mad time for me.

YOU DYED YOUR HAIR FOR THE ROLE OF JENNA WAS THIS A DELIBERATE DECISION?
Yes it was deliberate decision to dye my hair brown for the role, as the character of Jenna is totally different to Tanya, so it was right for her to have darker hair



Interview with Footballers Wives Producers 2004 (Series 2)

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER.
Tanya is still as ambitious and calculating as ever. Until now Tanya has always been the captain’s wife but in this series she isn’t, so I think she is struggling without having her usual status. However, it is not long before she falls for married Conrad Gates and sets about trying to steal him from Amber. She really is very calculating in how she goes about it.

WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING IN FOOTBALLERS’ WIVES?
It is such a brilliant character to play – and all the crew, the cast, the locations, the costumes and storylines are all fantastic.. I’m very lucky.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?
I love that she’s such a survivor. She is very strong and I really enjoy seeing what she gets up to.

WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?
I think her constant greed for more money and more status.

ARE YOU LIKE YOUR CHARACTER AT ALL? HOW DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD GET ON WITH THEM IF YOU MET THEM IN REAL LIFE?
There are traces of Tanya that are definitely a bit like me, as I guess to a certain extent we’re both survivors, but I wouldn’t go to the extremes that she does, and I wouldn’t use people like she does in order to get on in life

DO YOU LIKE THE CLOTHES THAT YOUR CHARACTER WEARS? WOULD YOU WEAR THEM AS YOURSELF?
I love all her clothes, Sarah Arthur the Costume Designer does a really fantastic job.

WHAT DO YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY THINK OF YOUR ROLE IN FOOTBALLERS’ WIVES?
They love it. They love Footballers’ Wives, and they love Tanya!

THERE ARE A LOT OF NEW CHARACTERS IN THIS SERIES AND NEW ACTORS FOR YOU TO GET TO KNOW – HOW HAS IT BEEN?
There have been cast changes this series and to be honest I was prepared to feel a bit strange without my old friends around me on set. But I’ve really enjoyed this series and it was great having all the new interaction with the new characters and I’ve made some really good new friends.
