The eco-friendly product which I have chosen is a tee-shirt manufactured by Ideo company. It’s the Fidji tee-shirt . This product is a garment made of organic cotton. The dye is without heavy metal and silkscreen printing is water based. This tee-shirt also stems from fairtrade. This garment is therefore very environment-friendly and person respectful. A garment is manufactured through several stages. These principal stages are : the cotton growing, the mill, the weaving and the making. The head office of Ideo is based in Paris and this company works with producers who come from Cambodia, India and Peru. To begin, Rachel Liu studied economy. She had been going to a training course and during this, she had seen that there is a lot of disparity between the North and the South. So, she felt the need to do something in France, which wouldn’t only be a one-way help. She realized that it was interesting to propose garments which are fairtrade and environment friendly. This way somebody who wants to wear clothes with a link to these convictions can do it. She met a lot of persons who wanted to do top-of-the-range clothes. But Rachel Liu thought that it’s better for these products not to be expensive and that they are affordable to everyone. She then met Antoinette Giorgi, who wanted to do the same thing. Together they looked for a producer of organic cotton and a mill, which accepts a little quantity of cotton. The cotton producer was already on the fair-trade network. Rachel and Antoinette wanted to help the population, but they wanted to give an assistance, which could be in coherence with population needs. Work conditions being already good, it’s to tribal community that help is given. Thanks to Ideo, salaries have been increased and a lot of jobs have been created. Good luck. ![]() Last edited by jierbe31; 02-24-2007 at 07:51 PM. |
